DAY 10 - LIVING A LIFE OF UNWAVERINGN DEVOTION
Jesus taught that His people are the light of the world. King David exemplified this light even
while hiding in a cave as king Saul sought his life. Many who witnessed David’s light later
became mighty warriors serving in Israel’s army. When David brought the Ark of the Covenant
to Jerusalem, he danced and worshiped the Lord of Israel with all his heart. He openly displayed
his passion for worshiping God with strength and sincerity. However, his wife was embarrassed
by his actions, as the king danced and sang among the people 1 .
Similarly, Mary of Bethany knelt at Jesus’ feet and broke an expensive perfume bottle to honor
Him. Many, including the disciples, criticized her for what they saw as a waste of money 2 .
Have those around you criticized you for being a passionate worshiper of God? Or perhaps a
better question: does your love for God make others uncomfortable? When we genuinely strive
to be a light to the world and choose to love God above all else, we may make others
uneasy—much like the Pharisees who felt uncomfortable about Jesus due to His extreme
devotion to the Father.
When Jesus is our priority, we stand out. People may see us as out of place, and often, we face
rejection, discrimination, and humiliation because of Him. However, we should rejoice when that
happens because our names are recognized in heaven, and our testimony draws others to
know Jesus.
Reflect on how much you give to God and how your devotion affects those around you. When
was the last time someone was impacted by how you love God? How often do the people
closest to you tell you they see Christ in how you live and walk? How much of God's nature is
visible in your life when someone looks at you?
It’s Christmas, time to celebrate and rejoice God the Father sent His one and only son and
sacrifice Him because His love for us, don’t you think that was an extreme love? I encourage
you to give something extreme to God now in this season and every season of your life; it can
be a good portion of your time, may be an offering, probably a decision. It could be a part of
your life that Jesus has been asking for and you are still doubting.
Lord Jesus, I have many people in my life whom I long to see transformed by Your love. But
perhaps I am not being the light You call me to be. Please transform and help me become more
like You, reflecting You to everyone around me. "Lord, make Your face shine upon me," and let
others see Your nature in me. Teach me how to kneel at Your feet and worship You in a way that
touches the hearts of others. Holy Spirit show me what is the perfume I should pour over Jesus’
feet. In Jesus' name, Amen.
