Day 22 - JESUS, PLEASE HEAL MY PAST
Creating resolutions for the new year doesn’t mean God wants to add more religious burdens to
your already busy life.
I recently read in the book Devote to Jesus: When we find something worthy of our whole heart
and fully devote ourselves to it, it will fuel our focus, passion, and lifelong pursuits. I truly believe
that Jesus alone is worthy of our whole heart.
To give our whole heart to Jesus, we need to make space for Him. Many of us are still tied to
the past—whether through memories or objects that remind us of how life used to be. Some
may even feel stuck there.
Yet, our God is calling us to let go of the past and trust in His work in the present. The prophet
Isaiah said:
“Do not remember the past events; pay no attention to things of old.” (Isaiah 43:18)
Peter Scazzero, in his book Emotionally Healthy Spirituality, reminds us that we must revisit our
past—but only if we go hand-in-hand with Jesus. With Him, we can confront and organize our
past.
If the “storage room” of your past is cluttered and disorganized, it’s time to sort through it. Seek
help if needed—from a pastor, a leader, or someone you trust. With Jesus by your side, along
with wise counsel, you can close the door on your past. Lock it with forgiveness, seal it with
compassion, and move forward with joy and peace.
Jesus says:“Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it?
Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:19)
Heavenly Father,
As I step into this new year, I long for a fresh start with You. Please help me to clear my heart
and make space for Your presence. I know You are worthy of my whole heart.
Lord, I ask You to heal my past. Help me find the courage and the right help to revisit and
organize what needs to be sorted. I trust that with You, I can face every memory, no matter how
painful, knowing You will bring healing and restoration.
Jesus, I give You my past, my present, and my future. Please guide me and transform my heart.
In Your holy name, I pray. Amen.
